Dragons
The advanced art students drew a dragon for their homework assignment one week and here are a few samples of how they turned out.
Favorite animal
The advanced art students were asked to draw their favorite animal in their sketchbooks for their homework assignment. Here are some of the results.
Value drawings
We started by creating a pencil value scale and practiced the art of shading evenly, then the students traced their hands, added several lines to their design and were asked to shade in each shape from dark to light.
Name Designs
To begin the school year, the 8th graders did an abstract design using their first and last names. They had to stretch and squeeze their names into a semi-circle, then mix their own warm and cool colors to paint the final design. Amazing!
Advanced Art still-life
The advanced art students were challenged to draw from observation. We started with marshmallows and using just a pencil, then we moved on to drawing with a white color pencil on black paper. Finally the students had to draw a fruit still-life using color pencils. They turned out amazing!
8th Grade Collage
The 8th graders worked tirelessly on drawing bottles in blind contour drawings, contour drawings and sketches using geometric shapes. Then they had to draw a minimum of five bottles in a still-life set up and collage them using tissue paper. Here are the results.
Kaleidoscope Color Wheels
The advaced art students had to create their own color wheels using tempera paints. They had to first create their own kaleidoscope design then paint each pie slice by mixing shades, tints and tones of each color on the color wheel.
8th Grade Self-portraits
The 8th graders did an outstanding job on their Chuck Close inspired self-portraits. (completed using colored pencils)
